This page says what Rule 8.3 Tracker (83tracker.co.uk) holds about you, why, and for how long. The site is deliberately simple, so the list is short.
The data controller is the operator of the site, and the address to write to is admin@83tracker.co.uk. Use it if anything here is unclear or you want to exercise one of the rights below, and the reply will come from the person responsible.
What we collect
An account is your email address and a password. We never hold the password itself. It is hashed before it is stored, the hash is all we keep, and it is never written to a log. Alongside it we record your role on the site and the date you confirmed your address.
Signing in creates a session, which is what keeps you signed in from one page to the next. We note when it began, when you last used it, and the IP address and browser you signed in from.
We keep two logs, one of account events and one of how the tracker itself is used. Both note the account involved, the IP address and the browser. The usage log also notes which tabs and controls are used inside the tracker, so that the parts nobody reads can be simplified. Neither holds passwords, verification codes or the contents of any email.
Why we keep it
We need your address so that you can sign in and so that we can send you a verification code. The session is what saves you signing in on every page. The logs let us notice a stolen password, look into abuse, and see which parts of the tracker are actually used. That is the lot. We build no profile of you, and nothing you do here is used to sell you anything.
In the language of the UK GDPR we rely on the agreement you enter into when you register, and on our legitimate interest in running the site securely.
How long
- Your account record stays for as long as the account exists. Ask us and we will delete it.
- A verification code can be used once, and its record is destroyed when it expires.
- A session expires 7 days after you last used it. Signing out or changing your password ends it immediately.
- Usage records are kept for a limited period and then deleted.
- Account event records are kept with the account, and the oldest drop off as new ones arrive. Deleting an account does not remove them, and the deletion itself is recorded. Ask us and we will remove them by hand.
Cookies and local storage
We set two cookies, and only once you sign in. One identifies your session. The other is a token your browser hands back with every change you make, so that another website cannot make changes in your name. Neither is used for anything else, and there are no cookies at all before you sign in.
Your browser also remembers a few display preferences of its own, such as the theme and the view you last had open. Those stay on your device and are never sent to us.
There is no advertising on the site, no analytics service, no tracking pixel and no third-party script. The only server your browser talks to is ours.
Emails we send
Two kinds, both from admin@83tracker.co.uk and both through our own mail server. The first is the verification code you ask for when you register or reset a password. The second is a company summary, sent only when you ask for one from inside the tracker, and only to the address on your account. You can also schedule that summary to be sent to your own address at times you choose; it goes nowhere else, and it stops when you remove the schedule under Account. We send no newsletters and no marketing of any kind.
The filings themselves
The tracker republishes public disclosures: the Takeover Panel disclosure table, Form 8.3 announcements from the London Stock Exchange RNS feed, and the FCA's published short positions. Those filings name the disclosing entity and sometimes an individual. We show them as published and cannot alter the original. If our reading of a filing is wrong, tell us and we will correct our copy.
Who else sees it
Nobody outside the site receives your data. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers or pass it to analytics companies. The emails described above are sent through our own mail server.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you. You can ask us to correct it, or to delete your account and the records that belong to it. Account event records are not removed automatically, as described above, but we will remove them if you ask. You can object to us keeping the logs described here, and we will explain what we can and cannot do about that. To do any of this, email admin@83tracker.co.uk from the address on your account. We will answer within a month.
If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather hear from you first, but that is your choice.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how long we keep it, we will update this page and the date at the top.
